Third Thursday Poetry Night Featuring Tim Verhaegen
Local Poet Tim Verhaegen will read from his work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 7:30PM. Tim Verhaegen has lived in the Capital District since 1980. He spent his childhood summers in East Hampton, New York. The “old people” living there adopted him, loved him, and made his traumatic childhood – magical. He has been attending poetry and prose writing open mics and writing workshops since 2005.
The Third Thursday Poetry Night has been at the Social Justice Center since July 2006, but due to the Corona virus pandemic, as well as needed structural repairs at the Center, the event was not held from early 2020 until January 2022. We are pleased to be back once again. The featured poet on June 16 Catherine Arra, & on July 21 Megeen Mulholland.
A reading by a local or regional poet is held each Third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.
