Third Thursday Poetry Night featuring John Thomas Allen
Local poet John Thomas Allen will read from his work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany, NY on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 7:30PM, with an open mic for community poets.
John Thomas Allen enjoys all forms of poetry, especially the highly speculative and what allows for the fullest freedom of expression. He was nominated for the Best of the Net by the Sundress Academy For the Arts, and won the James Tate Prize in 2019. His work has been featured in SuRvision, The Cimarron Review, Lothorien Poetry Journal, and most recently Spectral Realms. His most recent work, Cemetery Tour, was published by Monocle Anti Lash Press.
A reading by a local or regional poet/writer has been held since July 2006 each third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.
