Third Thursday Poetry Night featuring Ellen White Rook
Local writer Ellen White Rook will read from her work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 7:30PM, with an open mic for community poets.
Ellen White Rook was born in Germany to American parents, but was raised in Rhode Island. For the majority of her adult life, she has lived in the Capital Region. Since retiring from the State of New York Information Technology Services, Ellen has focused her energy on leading writing workshops that incorporate writing, meditation, and movement. She also teaches Japanese flower arranging. Ellen is married and has three adult daughters. Her first collection of poetry, Suspended, will be published by Cathexis Northwest Press this spring.
A reading by a local or regional poet/writer has been held since July 2006 each Third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.
