NYS Writers Institute’s 2nd Annual Albany Film Festival
The film festival will feature filmmakers and notable film industry leaders hosting discussions and screenings, a short film contest, and the Ironweed Awards presentation, named after Writers Institute’s founder William Kennedy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
“Our niche is a ‘bookish’ film festival that celebrates storytelling on film and focuses on adaptations of novels and stories into films; movies filmed in the Capital Region; and the art of screenwriting in cinema.”
— NYS Writers Institute Director Paul Grondahl
Guests include actor and director Karen Allen, presenting her short film “A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud.”, based on the short story by groundbreaking southern American writer Carson McCullers, written when she was just 25.
Also, a documentary on Nelson Algren, who won the first-ever National Book Award for “The Man with the Golden Arm,” will be screened followed by a discussion with novelist Russell Banks.
