Next Year’s Words: A New Paltz Reading Forum

The next session of Next Year’s Words, A New Paltz  Readers Forum, will be held on  December 20, 2023, at 7:30, at Elting Memorial Library, 93 Main Street, New Paltz, New York.

The readers for this event are Lucia Cherciu, Julia Ponder, and Lisa St. John.  There also is an open mic.  All are welcome to attend in person or via zoom. Lucia Cherciu is the author of six books of poetry, including Immigrant Prodigal Daughter (Kelsay Books, June 2023) and Train Ride to Bucharest (Sheep Meadow Press, 2017), which was the winner of the Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize. Her work was nominated multiple times for a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. Her poems appeared in “Poetry,” “Antioch Review,” and elsewhere. She served as the 2021-2022 Dutchess County Poet Laureate and teaches at SUNY/Dutchess.

Julia Ponder is a writer, poet, and teacher living in the Hudson Valley region of New York. Her poetry and nonfiction have appeared in the Dillydoun Review, THAT Magazine, Susquehanna Review, Shawangunk Review, Chronogram, 805Lit, Stonesthrow Review, Sonder Review, oxford public philosophy, The Bangalore Review, and Cape Rock. She is the author of Quantum Ghosts (Finishing Line Press, 2023).

Lisa St. John is a writer living in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York. She is the author of Ponderings (Finishing Line Press), and Swallowing Stones (Kelsay Books). Lisa has published her poetry in many journals and anthologies such as Light, The Ekphrastic Review, Glassworks, and 2elizabeths Volume 1 and The Poetry Distillery. Her poems have won several awards such as The Bermuda Triangle Prize and New Millenium Writing. Her essays and memoir excerpts have been published in magazines and nonfiction collections.
