Just Do It: A Creative Writing Workshop
Join Stephentown Art Guild co-founder and professional author Robin Catalano for Just Do It: A Creative Writing Workshop, where we’ll focus on experimenting with writing prompts. We’ll complete a series of short exercises aimed at letting the creative mind wander and tamping down the inner critic. Work can be shared—or not!—and all exercises will be given positive, supportive feedback. This is not a critique workshop, since criticism can be detrimental to the creative process during the earliest stages of a work. Attendees are invited to bring one previously written piece, which can be read in five minutes or less, to share; all other work will be created in class.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Stephentown’s Norte Azul Cantina, the workshop’s location and sponsoring host, will also provide a snack buffet for participants. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Robin Catalano is a travel, culture, and food journalist whose work has appeared in New York Times, National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, TIME, Smithsonian, Conde Nast Traveler, AFAR, Hemispheres, Robb Report, Bon Appetit, Fodor’s, Food & Wine, Boston Globe, Albany Times Union, and many more regional and international magazines. A member of the Society of American Travel Writers and the International Federation of Journalists, she was selected as the summer 2020 Writer-in-Residence at Arrowhead, the historic home of Herman Melville in Pittsfield, Mass. This year, she was a finalist for the International Food Wine and Travel Writers Association’s Excellence in Journalism Award. For more than 20 years, Robin has served as a freelance fiction and nonfiction editor for some of the country’s most prestigious publishing houses, including Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Scholastic.
