STRONGROOM is pleased to present As To Water; a poetry reading and collaboration between Elena Alexander, Jiwon Choi, Jon Curley, and Edwin Torres, and visual/conceptual artist Audra Wolowiec. Each poet will read poems connected to the theme of water, in response to Audra’s visual works and the natural landscape surrounding the reading. Taking place just feet from the banks of the Hudson, the sights and sounds of this concurrence between the visual and the aural create possibilities for an immersive experience for the audience, further emphasizing the collaboration between the poets and Audra’s visualized analogues to their work.

Audra Wolowiec has worked extensively in her artistic practice with musicians, writers, and poets, incorporating text into her unique visual language and creating conceptually driven works in the form of sculpture, print, and performance. For the current collaboration, Audra will create a limited edition print, to be shared with the audience, taking lines and phrases extracted from the words of each poet, interwoven with the prepositions and conjunctions from Virginia Woolf’s, The Waves; creating what Audra describes as, “an undercurrent of language, buoyant and slippery on the page.” Words will additionally appear in sculptural form for audience members to walk across or stand on, a further tactile form—and perhaps playful commentary—on their feelings about, and engagement with, language.
