Writer Wednesday

May 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

#WriterWednesday at Claverack Free Library this month features HVWG member Rhonda Rosenheck:

Sharp Ideas in Short Forms with Rhonda Rosenheck, M.Ed. (she/her/hers)

Haiku, Senryu and Tanka are terse poetic forms adapted to English from the Japanese poetic tradition. Their seeming simplicity can unmask breathtaking insights, universal truths, underlying humor, and unanswerable questions. This generative workshop will offer poets a delightful opportunity to play with the forms’ themes and structures, and to craft much from little. All experience levels.

Rhonda Rosenheck is a poet, editor, and retired school leader living in New York’s Capital Region. She edited Thriving: An Anthology (Exsolutas Press 2024), for which she won a NYSCA individual artists grant through Saratoga Arts. In 2023 She taught Writing to Thrive Workshops in Waterford and Lake George, NY. She has published the collection of poetry, The Five Books of Limericks: A chapter-by-chapter re-reading of the Torah and a chapbook titled Looking. She wrote the cartoon book, Yiddische Yoga: OYsanas for Every Generation. Rhonda’s poems have appeared in Heirlock Magazine, Kings River Life Magazine’s Halloween newsletter, The Paragon Press, and in A Book of Sonnets. Her poem MakerSpace was theatrically performed at the Glimmer Globe Theater, Cooperstown, NY. She has been a featured reader for the Poet Laureate’s Reading Series (Amesbury, MA), at W. Whitman Books (Middleburgh, NY) and Golden Leaf Bookshop (Waterford, NY). In July 2023, Rhonda was the resident poet at the Fish Factory Arts Centre in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. She coedits Capital Region Poems in Wheels, hosts Poetry at La Perla in Averill Park, NY, and serves on the board of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and as its internship coordinator.

Please bring a donation for the food pantry if you can. You have to make offerings to the muse after all!
