Woodstock Poetry Society Reading Featuring Roberta Gould & Vivi Hlavsa

Poets Roberta Gould and Vivi Hlavsa will be featured, followed by an open mic when the Woodstock Poetry Society meets in-person at the Woodstock Library and virtually via Zoom on Saturday, May 10th, 2025. at 2pm (eastern).

The reading will be hosted by Woodstock area poet Phillip X Levine. All meetings are free, open to the public, and include an open mic.

Roberta Gould is widely published in poetry journals (Confrontation, Green Mountain Review) and Anthologies, including: WeWere Seed, for Gaza, Word Thursday, The Art and Craft of Poetry (Daisy Aldan, editor); & in Socialism and Democracy, etc. Her 14 books include: Woven Lightning, Spuyten Duyvil Talk When You Can, Tell the Truth, Day True, & Atravesar, a forthcoming Kindle in Spanish, Feb 2025.

She has translated poems from Spanish by major writers, is a supporter of Haitan People’s Support Project, Street Children Project in Mexico and many more.

Virginia (ViVi) Hlavsa taught English at Queens College and tutored young adults with learning disabilities. She has written scholarly articles and a book, Faulkner and the Thoroughly Modern Novel, and several books of poetry, Re-Versing: Memoire of the Non-Agenarian, Waking October Leavesand Squinnied for a Sign. As president of the Kingston AAUW (American Association for University Women), ViVi led book groups, movie discussions, trips to museums, and instituted “One Book, One Community” with area colleges and libraries. In 2011, ViVi started SSIP (Seniors Serving in Place), now with five branches (see info.SSIP), for which she won New York State’s “Senior of the Year” in 2017. Several new books of poems are planned.
