For the 1st time ever at the third Thursday readings, there will be 2 featured poets reading, Tom Nicotera from Connecticut & Charlie Rossiter from Vermont, at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany on Thursday, on July 18, 2024 at 7:30PM, with an open mic for community poets.Tom Nicotera has published poems in numerous small press publications. He was a member of the poetry performance trio, Not Just Any Tom, Vic and Terry, and was a co-founder of Bloomfield Library’s Wintonbury Poetry Series, now in its 27th year. His poetry book, What Better Place To Be Than Here?, was published by Foothills Publishing in 2015.
Charlie Rossiter has performed his work across the nation as one of 3 Guys From Albany at places like the Green Mill, Chicago; Nuyorican Poets Café in NYC; and the Detroit Opera House. His latest book, is Green Mountain Meditations and he has recent poems in Bennington Review, Paterson Literary Review, and Wherever I’m At: An Anthology of Chicago Poetry. He and Tom Nicotera are (very) long-time friends.
A reading by a local or regional poet/writer has been held since July 2006 each third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.
