Salon Salvage returns this Saturday night, March 29th, 7pm, at Upstairs Arts Collective (403 Fulton in Troy). Our very exciting lineup features artist Judith Braun, poet Maggie Greaves, and translator Mayada Ibrahim.

Sliding scale door donation: $3-10.

 

Judith Braun is primarily a visual artist who also writes and sometimes uses text in her work. She was born in Albany, NY, received her MFA at University at Albany, in 1983, and then moved to New York City to live and work on the Lower East Side. Recently she returned upstate and has her studio in Albany. She has exhibited widely in galleries and museums in the US and internationally, and is currently in “History Lessons”, an exhibition at the University Art Museum, closing April 4…so a few more days to see! Her work has been reviewed by Roberta Smith in the New York Times, also The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, among others. Judith is a recipient of artist grants from Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation and her papers are archived at the Fales Library at NYU.

Maggie Greaves is a poetry scholar and poet from Atlanta, GA. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in such magazines as the Seneca Review, North American Review, Literary Matters, Third Coast, and Spoon River Poetry Review, and she has been nominated for multiple Puschart Prizes. Her scholarship and teaching have been recognized by grants and awards from the Fulbright Commission in Ireland, the T.S. Eliot Society, the Rose Library, the Mellon Foundation, and the Periclean Foundation. She is the author of Lyric Poetry and Space Exploration from Einstein to the Present (Oxford University Press, 2023). Currently, she is associate professor of English at Skidmore College.

Mayada Ibrahim (she/her) is a literary translator and editor based in Queens, New York, with roots in Khartoum and London. She works between Arabic and English, and her translations have been published by Willows House in South Sudan, Foundry Editions, Dolce Stil Criollo, and 128 Lit. She is the managing editor at Tilted Axis Press, a publisher of contemporary literature by the global majority. Mayada is also an adjunct lecturer of Arabic at Hunter College and a founding member of the Translators Organizing Committee within the National Writers Union.
