At a time when empathy is often in short supply and divisions, misperception and fears run deep, Yaddo is delighted to support the establishment of a Little Free Library for banned books in Caffé Lena’s courtyard in partnership with the New York State Writers Institute, League of Women Voters and a growing list of supporters.Since our founding, Yaddo has acknowledged intellectual and creative freedom as the bedrock of a vibrant society. Books are supposed to challenge us, to take us into other worlds, to make us go, Huh, I never thought of that! For children, teens and adults alike, age-appropriate books give us a portal to a wider world. More than that, without imagination, the very idea of democracy is at risk.
Join us for a ribbon-cutting, with live music and readings, on Wednesday, August 24, 7 p.m. The price of admission is a banned book! Please bring one with you for the Little Free Library.
