The Hudson Valley Writers Guild is celebrating National Poetry Month with three great events in Albany and Troy.

To kick things off, Dan Wilcox will host Third Thursday Poetry Night at the Social Justice Center on April 17. This long-running open mic series will feature the great Melissa Anderson.

Melissa Anderson is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply influenced by a search for connection with the physical world, changing seasons, and our relationships with the places we call home. She co-runs the slam poetry team Slam Euphoria, as well as their bi-monthly poetry open mic at Cafe Euphoria in Troy NY. Her first poetry collection, Dogstar Poems, is published through Main Street Rag Press.

On Friday night, April 18, the poetry party heads to Troy for the Slam Euphoria Team Qualifier to add new members to their slam poetry team. The Slam Euphoria team competes regionally and is looking to continue to expand its reach in 2025.

Slam Euphoria is a twice-monthly open mic and poetry slam held at Cafe Euphoria in Troy. The open mic is open to poets, musicians, storytellers, and other performers with something to share. Enjoy delicious food and drinks and support the vibrant community at Cafe Euphoria every first and third Friday of the month! Sign-ups are at 6:30, open mic at 7:00, and then a slam at 8:00.

Follow the slam team at SlamEuphoria518 on Instagram to catch all the latest updates.

The weekend of spoken word wraps up on Saturday, April 19, as D. Colin and Mary Panza present “Poet’s Corner Series: Hope, Fire, Revolution,” featuring a book fair and poetry performances by Adonis Richards, D. Colin, El, Lynnette Johnson, Tarishi M.I.D.N.G.H.T. Shuler, and Courtney Symone. This incredible afternoon of poetry starts at 2:00 p.m. at KBK Studios, 10 Second Street in Troy.
