Contemplative Writing Half-Day Retreat
Half-day contemplative writing retreat alternating sessions of mindfulness meditation, walking meditation, and writing with optional prompts. Suitable for writers of all genres. Meditation instruction will be provided for anyone new to meditation or in need of a refresher. Dress comfortably and bring paper and pen, laptop or tablet. All are welcome!
Why practice mindfulness in conjunction with writing? “Mindfulness,” says Felicia Rose Chavez in the Anti-Racist Writing Workshop “is an energy of awareness, meaning that you are both physically and psychologically planted in the present moment. When you write, you write with your whole body, not rushing or multitasking or compartmentalizing the assignment but rather relinquishing control, surrendering to the creative impulse. “
The program will be led by Ellen White Rook, poet, writer, contemplative arts teacher, and meditation instructor.
