Authors Tara Kelly & Ralph Sneeden will talk with The Lakeville Journal’s Editor in Chief, John Coston, about the art of memoir and their respective new books NO LAST WORDS & THE LEGIBLE ELEMENT.

Calling every poet and admirer of poetry alike: Inquiring Minds is bringing back poetry night on the last Thursday of every month, hosted by Laura Ludwig, a celebrated local poet, screenwriter, actress, and producer! We encourage poets of all skill levels to sign up for a four minute slot to share original (published or unpublished) poetry, fiction, or prose.

Kids ages 0-5 are welcome to this early literacy story.
5:00 PM – Authors Jacopo della Quercia and Cristopher Neumann are signing and discussing, “Weird Tales: 100 Years of Weird” @ Market Block Books
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first issues of Weird Tales Magazine, 100 Years of Weird is a masterful compendium of new and classic stories, flash fiction, essays, and poems from the giants of speculative fiction, including R. L. Stine, Laurell K. Hamilton, Ray Bradbury, H. P. Lovecraft, Tennessee Williams, and Isaac Asimov.
6:00 PM – Fourth Friday Open Mic @ The Poetry Barn
Join us in community for another fourth Friday open mic ~ Halloween edition! Bring your poems/songs/stories about alter-egos and shadow-sides, costume-optional! Sign-up starts at 6 PM, with performances to begin at 6:30 PM. Each performer will have 5-10 minutes.

12:00 PM – Halloween Book Fair @ The Open Door Bookstore
This is a book sale that is geared towards adults but will feature some Young Adult titles. There will be a raffle and a face painter who can help with getting Halloween makeup ready for a small donation. Costumes are both welcome and encouraged! A percentage of the proceeds will go to C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios.

The Hudson Valley Writers Guild presents an afternoon fiction writers workshop with University at Albany professor Moriah Hampton.
2:00 PM – Nancy Graff – “Runaway Pond” @ Northshire Manchester
Author Nancy Graff will join us to celebrate her new picture book, Runaway Pond. Based on a true story, this tribute to everyday heroism doubles as a lyrical primer on how landscapes evolve – and how a flood changes a small Vermont town forever.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Meg Kearney. An open mic poetry reading will follow.
7:00 PM – Straw Dog Writes Online Weekly Meetup
Each Wednesday at 7pm, whenever there is not another scheduled Straw Dog event, any Straw Dog Writers Guild members who would like to spend some time writing together can join a Zoom session.
