The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History, a new museum and cultural center in the former Reher’s Bakery down in the Rondout area of Kingston is accepting poetry submissions about the Hudson Valley and Hudson River by its immigrant poets past and present.
The Reher Center is developing our site into a cultural center and museum focusing on immigrant stories of the Hudson Valley. We are preserving and revitalizing this rare, intact 19th-century building to create a vibrant new resource that welcomes local residents and visitors alike. Our tours and programs, on the themes of immigration, community, work, and bread, honor the Reher family’s legacy and the history of the Rondout neighborhood.
As the only site in Kingston dedicated to the immigrant stories of the Hudson Valley past and present, the Reher Center is eager to involve the immigrant poets of the region today. As a start, they are interested in putting together a poetry reading of several of these works for early in the Fall. The Reher Center is especially interested in poetry by immigrants from another country who now live in the Hudson Valley and have written poetry about this area (a particular town or community, the river or landscape, personal narrative, etc.)
