The Yes! Poetry & Performance Series ends its Fall Season at the Albany Center Gallery (39 Columbia Street, Albany) this Saturday, November 22, featuring poetry and dance by Marthe Reed, Michael Ruby, and Sally Rhoades.
Marthe Reed is the author of five books: Nights Reading (Lavender Ink), Pleth, a collaboration with j hastain (Unlikely Books), (em)bodied bliss (Moria Books), Gaze (Black Radish Books) and Tender Box, A Wunderkammer (Lavender Ink). She has published chapbooks as part of the Dusie Kollektiv, as well as with above/ground press and Shirt Pocket Press. Her collaborative chapbook thrown, text by j hastain with Reed’s collages, won the 2013 Smoking Glue Gun contest and will appear in Spring 2015. She is Co-Publisher of Black Radish and the Editor/Publisher of Nous-zōt chapbooks.
Michael Ruby is the author of five full-length books of poetry, including Compulsive Words (BlazeVOX, 2010) and American Songbook (Ugly Duckling, 2013); a trilogy of psychic research, Memories, Dreams and Inner Voices (Station Hill, 2012); and three chapbooks from Dusie. Recent poems have appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, Otoliths, Drunken Boat and E*ratio. He is also the co-editor of Bernadette Mayer’s forthcoming collected early books at Station Hill. He lives in Brooklyn and work as an editor of U.S. news and political articles at The Wall Street Journal.
Sally Rhoades, a North Country artist, is a poet, playwright and performer. She has been published in Up The River, an anthology of the Hudson Valley, Elegant Rage, an Anthology on Woody Gutherie’s centennial, the Highwatermark Salo[o]n Series of Stockport flats, Peer Glass, an anthology of Hudson valley and on 8T3 at swankwriting.com. Her first play, Cradle Arms, was invited to the New York State University Playwriting Festival at Brockport, NY. Her other play, Moon Over Manhattan, was produced at the Johnstown Colonial Theatre in 2007 and brought to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in 2008. Performance work includes: ReWind, shown in NYC (2013), Howl, a Poet Dances, performed at the Arts Center of the Capital Region (2013), Beyond the Birch, the Birch Beyond,NYC (2011), and Pomegranates and Roses, a Love Story, shown at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (2008).
Albany Center Gallery is a community-based and community supported non-profit art space dedicated to exhibiting skillful contemporary art of the Mohawk Hudson region, and building a strong, knowledgeable audience for the visual arts.
