Gival Press runs an annual Short Story contest.
Submissions of a previously unpublished original (not a translation) short story in English must be approximately 5,000 to 15,000 words of high literary quality, typed, double-spaced on one side of the paper only, with word count in the upper left hand side of the first page, along with the title. The author’s name should not appear on the numbered pages of the ms which should be clipped together. Please note that the story should be a “stand alone story”, not a chapter from a novel.
Gival Press contests are open to all writers globally.
The author will receive $1,000.00 and the winning story will be published on the Gival Press website.
3-Day Novel Contest

The 3-Day Novel Contest is an annual competition to write the best full novel in 72 hours. The top entry will be published, with cash awards for second and third place.
The contest takes place every Labour Day weekend and entrants are expected to complete a novel in 72 hours. Entrants pre-register by mail by the Friday before the contest. They are allowed to prepare a brief outline ahead of time. Entrants write in whatever setting they wish, in whatever genre they wish, anywhere in the world.
The actual writing must begin no earlier than 12:01 a.m., on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend, and must stop by 11:59 on the following Monday. Novels may not be edited outside the contest time frame.
Entrants may be from anywhere in the world and of any age.
The first prize winner will be offered a publishing contract by Anvil Press after the winner announcement in the spring following the contest. Once the contract is signed, the winning novel will be edited, published and released by next year’s contest.
James B. Palais Book Prize

The James B. Palais Prize of the Association for Asian Studies is given annually to an outstanding scholar of Korean studies from any discipline or country specialization to recognize distinguished scholarly work on Korea. The Palais Prize carries a $1,000 cash award.

Upon receipt of a completed nomination form, publishers will be provided with addresses for prize committee members. A copy of each entry, clearly labeled “James B. Palais Prize,” must be sent to each member of the committee.
The Palais Prize carries a $1,000 cash award.

The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award is an $8,000 cash grant to be awarded to one (1) New York State-based playwright or screenwriter who self-identifies as LGBTQ+. The Award is open to playwrights and screenwriters who live in New York State, including those who live within the five boroughs of New York City.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a working playwright or screenwriter. Acceptable forms of playwriting or screenwriting include stageplays, screenplays, teleplays, libretti, radio plays, and audio dramas. No audio is accepted.
- Must self-identify as LGBTQ+.
- Must be a current full-time resident of New York State for a minimum of 12 months at the time the application closes.
- Must be at least 25 years of age at the time the application closes.
- Cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program of any kind.
- Can be past recipients of any NYFA grant or fellowship programs, except past recipients of The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award.
- Cannot be a NYFA employee, members of the NYFA Board of Trustees or Artists’ Advisory Committee, and/or an immediate family member of any of the above.
The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award is an $8,000 cash grant.
Best Spiritual Literature Awards

Orison Books annually accept entries of unpublished single works in three genres (poetry, fiction, & nonfiction) for consideration for The Best Spiritual Literature Awards.
The Best Spiritual Literature Awards recognizes unpublished works. Writers may submit up to 3 poems (10 pp. max), 1 story (up to 8,000 words), or 1 work of nonfiction (up to 8,000 words).
Writers may submit in multiple genres, and/or submit multiple entries in each genre. There is an entry fee of $12 per submission.
The winner in each genre will receive a $500 cash prize as well as publication in Best Spiritual Literature, an annual collection of the finest spiritually engaged writing that appeared in periodicals the preceding year. The Wrekin Writers offers the Doris Gooderson Short Story Competition for short stories (on any theme).

L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest is an opportunity for new writers of science fiction and fantasy to have their work judged by some of the masters in the field and discovered by a wide audience.
Professionals need not apply. Writers can enter 1 story per quarter, and up to 4 per year.
Prizes of $1,000, $750 and $500 are awarded every three months. From the four quarterly 1st Place winners each year, a panel of judges select one story as the grand prize winner. The writer of the grand-prize-winning story receives the L. Ron Hubbard Golden Pen Award and an additional $5,000 cash prize.

Palette Poetry is holding a Nature Poetry Prize contest and is accepting submissions of unpublished poems which reflect on the natural world. The winner will be awarded $3,000 and publication, the first runner-up will receive $300 and publication, and the second runner-up will receive $200 and publication.
The Nature Poetry Prize will recognize the best submissions of poetry on topics related to the natural world. Palette Poetry will accept poetry written in English, and other languages only if they are largely written in English. At this time, they do not accept translated work unless the entrant is also the author of the original poem. Palette will only accept unpublished work.
Each submission must be no more than three poems and under ten pages.
Submissions are open internationally, to any poet writing in English. Each submission requires a $20 reading fee. Multiple submissions will be accepted.
Note: Writers from historically marginalized groups are invited to submit for free until we reach the fifty free entries budgeted for this particular contest.

Tupelo Quarterly’s editors seek to cultivate a diverse and expansive vision of what poetry can be. With that in mind, our contest is open to all forms and styles of poetry.
