Upcoming Literary Events: November 7-13, 2024

This week, we have another great lineup of literary events in the region. Here’s a quick look at the upcoming book discussions, readings, open mics, and workshops.

 

Thursday, November 7

7:00 PM – Here’s Where The Story Ends: An Evening of Closures @ Mopco Improv Theatre
Join Daniel Nester, former Saint Rose professor, as he reads from “Here’s Where The Story Ends,” a work-in-progress about his experiences at the end of a long teaching career. Nester will be joined by former students, Brett Petersen and Sarah Michelle Sherman, who will also read from their work.

 

Friday, November 8

6:30 PM – Poetry Reading Featuring Alan Catlin @ Pine Hollow Arboretum
The final poetry reading and open mic of the season at the Pine Hollow Arboretum with featured poet Alan Catlin

 

Saturday, November 9

2:00 PM – Woodstock Poetry Society Reading Featuring Judy Lechner and Teresa Costa @ Woodstock Library
Poets Judy Lechner and Teresa Costa will be featured followed by an open mic when the Woodstock Poetry Society meets at the Woodstock Library. 

6:00 PM – You Me and Poetry @ Fuze Box
Lucid Voices, the Honey Drippers, and The Fuze Box will collaborate on curating You Me and Poetry, an open mic experience.

 

Sunday, November 10

9:00 AM – Heart Translation Virtual Creative Writing Course
An 8-week course guiding you to deeper personal truth(s) and more authentic written expression. We take a creative embodiment approach to learning, unlearning, and returning to a more authentic Self.

2:00 PM – 2nd Sunday @ 2 – Poetry + Prose @ Collar City Mushrooms
The 2nd Sunday @ 2 open mic for poetry and prose is in its 11th year, supporting emerging, published and writers in-between. 

6:00 PM – IHOP Clifton Park – Write-In @ IHOP Clifton Park
We will do 20 minutes of writing and then 20 minutes of chatting. Continuing in a cycle throughout the three and a half hour event!

6:00 PM – Denny’s – Write-In @ Denny’s – East Greenbush
We will do 20 minutes of writing and then 20 minutes of chatting. Continuing in a cycle throughout the three and a half hour event! 

 

Monday, November 11

6:30 PM – Poets’ Circle Open Mic Event @ Schenectady County Public Library
Poets’ Circle must leave its home of the past 14 months. We’d love your presence and support as we become, for now, an itinerant poetry circle with a deep commitment to serving Schenectady. 

 

Tuesday, November 12

7:00 PM – 2nd Tuesday Open Mic
All-genre open mic out of Bennington hosted by Charlie Rossiter.

7:00 PM – Poets Creating Conversation: NEXT @ Unitarian Universalist Church
Not for the faint of heart, Poets Creating Conversation throws out a single word/idea and asks poets to circle around. The results defy expectations!

 

Wednesday, November 13

6:00 PM – Poetry Night @ Schuylerville Public Library
Poetry Night at the Schuylerville Public Library takes place on the second Wednesday of each month

 

6:30 PM – “What’s It All About? Poems that Make Jewish Sense of Nature” @ Congregation Gates of Heaven
As part of this course, you’ll be invited to take walks in nature, reflect on encounters with the wild, and ask yourself in focused way: what’s it all about?

 

7:00 PM – Straw Dog Writes Weekly Writers Meet Up
Straw Dog Writers Guild members who would like to spend some time writing together can join a Zoom session. We will spend 15 minutes on introductions, a 45 minute writing session, have a 15 minute discussion, then write for a second 45 minute period of time. 

 

7:30 PM – Writers Mic
Writers near and far are welcome to join host Jackie Craven for a lively monthly open mic.
