Thom Francis welcomes poets Cat Simon & Kate S. who shared their work at the 2024 Word Fest Open Mic at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts on April 27, 2024.
In early 2020, right before the details for the 19th annual Word Fest were to be announced, the COVID-19 pandemic shut live events down. After five years, the Hudson Valley Writers Guild put on the 2024 Word Fest over two days in Troy and West Sand Lake, NY.
On Saturday, April 27, the Word Fest Open Mic made its return, this time to the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. The event was filled with featured spoken word artists and an amazing lineup of open mic poets.
Today, we are showcasing two incredible poets from the event: Cat Simon who read poems from her chapbook-in-progress, and then Kate S. who was sharing her poetry in public for the first time, starting with “If You Can’t Find the Words, Choose a Color.”
