The great Michele Battiste steps up to the Virus-Free Video Open Mic – the Albany Poets video project bringing poets together during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michele Battiste developed her best poetry chops learning from the poets she met at Albany’s open mics and featured readings. She is the author of three poetry collections: Ink for an Odd Cartography and Uprising, both from Black Lawrence Press, and Waiting for the Wreck to Burn, which received the 2018 Louise Bogan Award from Trio House Press. Her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, The Rumpus, Memorious, and Mid-American Review, among others. Michele has taught writing workshops for Wichita State University, the Prison Arts Program in Hutchinson, KS, Gotham Writers’ Workshops, and the national writing program Teen Ink. She lives in Colorado.
