On Wednesday, November 6, the long-running Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic series continues at the historic Saratoga Springs venue with featured poet Judith Prest followed by an open mic for poetry and spoken word.
Judith Prest is a poet, photographer, mixed media artist and creativity coach. Her poems have been published in several literary journals and in seven anthologies. Her chapbook, After, was published by Finishing Line Press in May 2019. A retired school social worker, she currently works part-time running Recovery Writing and Expressive Art groups at New Choices Recovery Center in Schenectady NY. She also gives workshops and leads retreats for Poetry, Expressive Arts, Creativity, and Healing. She lives in Duanesburg, NY with her husband and three cats, also the home of her business, Spirit Wind Studio, LLC.
This monthly event, hosted by Carol Graser, takes place on the first Wednesday of every month and includes an open mic reading as well as featured poets. Sign up for the open mic starts at 7:00 and readings start at 7:30. Each open mic poet reads two short poems (less than one page) or one longer poem. All styles of poetry are welcome. Admission is $5 general, free for students.
Before the open mic, at 6:00 p.m., there is a Poetry Discussion Group, sponsored by Saratoga Springs Public Library. This month the Poetry Discussion Group will look at and discuss a selection of poems from a renowned poet.
