On Wednesday, August 7, the long-running Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic series continues at the historic Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs with featured poet Jessica Hornik followed by an open mic for poetry and spoken word.
Jessica Hornik is the author of A Door on the River (Chatwin Books, 2018), her first book. Her poems have appeared in the Atlantic, Poetry, the New Republic, Salmagundi, the Times Literary Supplement (including as featured TLS Poem of the Week), the Yale Review, and many other publications. She has twice been a resident at the Millay Colony for the Arts, where she was the Rita Gold Fellow, and has been invited to appear as visiting writer at Union College this fall. Her collaborations with two composers have resulted in three song cycles set to her poems. Born and raised in upstate New York, Jessica has lived for many years in Alplaus, a Mohawk River hamlet.
This monthly event, hosted by Carol Graser, takes place on the first Wednesday of every month and includes an open mic reading as well as featured poets. Sign up for the open mic starts at 7:00 and readings start at 7:30. Each open mic poet reads two short poems (less than one page) or one longer poem. All styles of poetry are welcome. Admission is $5 general, free for students.
Before the open mic, at 6:00 p.m., there is a Poetry Discussion Group, sponsored by Saratoga Springs Public Library. This month the Poetry Discussion Group will look at and discuss a selection of poems from renowned poet, Linda Gregg.
