Mark your calendar for a lively presentation by poet Perry S. Nicholas on Wednesday, August 14 at C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios, 137 State Street, Schenectady. The evening will begin at 7:30 with an open mic for poetry and short prose. Bring a page or two to share, or settle back and hear Perry read some of his award-winning poems, including selections from his new chapbook, Why I Learned to Spell.
Perry S. Nicholas is an English Professor at Erie Community College North in Buffalo, N.Y. He has published one textbook of poetry prompts, three full-length and five chapbooks of original poetry, and two CDs of poetry. He has hosted four poetry venues in the WNY area. Perry has judged the Just Buffalo poetry contest, the national Poetry Out Loud competition, and has been a guest lecturer at Villa Maria College, Niagara Community College, Buffalo State College, and New York College in Athens, Greece.
Located on lower State Street, C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios is just around the corner from Slicks Tavern (famous for thick sandwiches) and the Moon & River Café, next to KFC, and across the street from the new Frog Alley craft brewery. There’s a bus stop out front and plentiful parking along State Street and Liberty Street, plus a free parking lot behind the building on Liberty Street.
Doors open at 7 pm (no earlier, please, because private meetings may be in session). Readings begin at 7:30. Admission is free; coffee and tea are available for a donation. Jackie Craven will host.
