So much going on in the local poetry and spoken word community. Here is a look at all of the poetry open mics, events, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region as we kick off the 2019 Word Fest with the Readings Against the End of the World!

 

Monday, April 8

7:00pm – Poetry Night at Montgomery Book Exchange

Monthly open mic for poetry and spoken word with featured reader Ariana Den Bleyker, hosted by Walter Pahucki.

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night

A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Rensselaerville Library Poetry Group
Rensselaerville Library, 1459 County Route 351, Rensselaerville, NY
Bring your poem and receive feedback from fellow poets, or just share your words at the Rensselaerville Library Poetry Group on the Second and Fourth Tuesdays of each month.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm.

 

Wednesday, April 10

7:00pm – 2nd Wednesday Poetry
C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios, 137 State Street, Schenectady, NY
Featured writers + open mic for poetry, short prose, and mixed media. Signups for the open mic start at 7:00, readings start at 7:30. Facilitated by Jackie Craven with rotating hosts.

 

Thursday, April 11

7:00pm – Rockhill Bakehouse Open Mic

Weekly open mic for musicians and writers.

7:30pm – Utica Poets Society Spoken Word Open Mic
The Other Side, 2011 Genesee Street, Utica, NY
Weekly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a non-mandatory theme.

7:30pm – Word of Mouth Poetry Series
Artbar Gallery, 674 Broadway, Kingston, NY
WOMPS: Word Of Mouth Poetry Series is a monthly poetry and spoken word open mic hosted by Teresa Costa. This month’s featured readers are Alison Koffler and Dayl Wise.

8:00pm – Voice Less Readings
Green Kill Gallery, 229 Greenkill Avenue, Kingston, NY
Voice Less is a weekly reading series hosted by Noah David Roberts focused on giving those who feel like their art is not heard a place where they can share, listen, and become inspired.

 

Friday, April 12

7:00pm – Readings Against the End of the World
SUNY Albany Husted Hall Café, 135 Western Ave, Albany, NY
The 2019 Word Fest kicks off as Albany Poets and UAlbany Writing Center present a 24-Hour Open Mic for poetry, storytelling, theater, spoken word, and more to benefit the South End Children’s Café. This year’s event will host several special segments including midnight theatre, a morning youth reading, and a performance by The Unbearables – all alternating with open mic signup slots.

8:00pm – Hudson Valley Poets’ Poetry Night 
Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street, Beacon, NY
Hudson Valley Poets’ Poetry Night an open mic with a featured reader at the Howland Cultural Center on the second Friday of every month, hosted by Hayden Wayne.

 

Saturday, April 13

1:00pm – Poetry and the Power of Collaboration
Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry Street, Saratoga Springs, NY
This April 13th event at the Saratoga Springs Public Library will include not only the collaborative video/poems made by Mary Kathryn Jablonski and filmmaker Laura Frare.

2:00pm – Woodstock Poetry Society
Golden Notebook, 29 Tinker Street, Woodstock, NY
Monthly poetry open mic in beautiful Woodstock, NY hosted by Chronogram Poetry Editor Phillip X Levine with featured poets Brian Liston and Lissa Kiernan.

5:00pm – Grethen Primack Reads Poems and Talks Prison
Golden Notebook, 29 Tinker Street, Woodstock, NY
Join Gretchen Primack and The Golden Notebook for a book launch for VISITING DAYS.

7:00pm – Volume Reading Series
Spotty Dog Books & Ale, 440 Warren Street, Hudson, NY
Volume is a FREE reading and music series featuring prose, poetry, and a short DJ set every second Saturday at Spotty Dog Books and Ale in Hudson NY. This month’s featured performers are Marianne Shaneen, Tess Browne-Lavoie, YZ Chin, and Patrick Donnelly.
