So much going on in the local poetry and spoken word community. Here is a look at all of the poetry events, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region.

 

Monday, November 5

A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Poetry and Short Story Open Mic
Irish Tea Shop, 2460 Route 145, East Durham, NY
All are welcome to join the monthly Poetry & Short Story Evenings that will be held on 1st Tuesday of Every Month at the Irish Tea Shop.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome.

7:00pm – Word of Mouth Poetry Series

7:30pm – Utica Poets Society Spoken Word Open Mic
The Other Side, 2011 Genesee Street, Utica, NY
Weekly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a non-mandatory theme.

8:00pm – Voice Less Readings
Green Kill Gallery, 229 Greenkill Avenue, Kingston, NY
Voice Less is a weekly reading series hosted by Noah David Roberts focused on giving those who feel like their art is not heard a place where they can share, listen, and become inspired.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY
A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best coffee shops.

 

Friday, November 9

7:00pm – Wide World of Writers Week presents: Poetry and Prose Open Mic
Dorn Space, 99 N. Main Street, Gloversville, NY
Wide World of Writers Week officially opens with a wide open poetry and prose open mic. Sign up (beginning at 6:30 pm) to take your (5 minute) turn on stage. And, at the conclusion of the event, the first ever “Dorn Space Poet Laureate” will be chosen from among the evening’s participants. $5 (cash/door only).

8:00pm – Hudson Valley Poets’ Poetry Night 
Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street, Beacon, NY
Hudson Valley Poets’ Poetry Night an open mic and featured reader Gloria Winter at the Howland Cultural Center on the second Friday of every month, hosted by Hayden Wayne.

 

Saturday, November 10

1:00pm – Poetry Caravan of Columbia County: Poetry Games
Chatham Public Library, 11 Woodbridge Avenue, Chatham, NY
Writing (and reading) poetry can be a serious endeavor. Poetry games, however, invite you to stimulate your creativity by playing with words, thinking outside the box, and having some fun.

2:00pm – Woodstock Poetry Society

Monthly poetry open mic in beautiful Woodstock, NY hosted by Chronogram Poetry Editor Phillip Levine with featured poets Janet Hamill and Teresa Costa.

7:00pm – Volume Reading Series
Spotty Dog Books & Ale, 440 Warren Street, Hudson, NY
Volume is a FREE reading and music series featuring prose, poetry, and a short DJ set every second Saturday at Spotty Dog Books and Ale in Hudson NY. This month’s featured performers are Jessica Hornik, Madelaine Lucas, Chaya Bhuvaneswar, and Sadie Dupuis.

8:00pm – Wide World of Writers Week presents: My Life in the FBI
Dorn Space, 99 N. Main Street, Gloversville, NY
Recently retired (April 2018) FBI Agent, Daniel Kelly provides an inside perspective on the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Audience questions and discussion encouraged. $10 (cash/door only).
