Guild member Dawn Marar’s poetry chapbook from Finishing Line Press, Efflorescence, will be published in March 2018. It’s available now for preorder at https://www.
Dawn Marar‘s Efflorescence tells the story of a nuptial love that spans continents, bringing the U.S. and Iraq into a single bed, trying to bloom a new world order. We travel with the poet to Jordan and Palestine to visit relatives, curse drones and leaf blowers, meditate on souvenirs from the Middle East, and learn of Abu Khalid, who, “using remnants of weapons, rockets/and tank shells, rolled out the dough to make barley/bread which his son then sold on the street.” Marar employs the bitterness of wars and exile in these poems to make her own homemade manna.–Philip Metres, author of Sand Opera
Dawn Marar‘s chapbook, Efflorescence, is hard-hitting and plain spoken. In poems that are as simple in means as they are complex and disturbing in effect, she brings the violence of the Middle East into the intimate spaces of family and married life.–Alan Shapiro, Life Pig
Dawn is a Geo-Political romantic cross-cultural language craftswoman with roots in both rich and poor soil. She’s a traveler from back porch suburbia to the war-torn world while smartly never overpacked.–Alan Casline, ROOTDRINKER
