In conjunction with the Berkshire Art Association’s Biennial Juried Show, OTHERING, WordXWord has assembled a diverse group of individuals, poets, and storytellers to share work reflecting on experiences of exclusion, marginalization, and separation, for a performance at 3:00 p.m., November 13 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Ave, Pittsfield, MA. The performance is free and open to the public. Parents of younger children are advised that the program may contain mature content.
As defined in the Berkshire Art Association’s call for entries for its Biennial, “OTHERING is defined in this context as perceiving or portraying something as fundamentally different.”
WordXWord’s Othering applied the same definition as it reached out to poets and storytellers for work that reflects/relates to “experiences of exclusion, marginalization, and separation – dealing in themes of (but not limited to) race, health, class, gender, sexuality, age, (dis)ability and neurodivergence.”
The assembled group of performers, ranging in age from 15 – 70+, is comprised of seasoned poets and storytellers, as well as individuals stepping forward – perhaps for the first time – to share their personal experiences and perspectives. The resulting tapestry of spoken word, set in the context of the Berkshire Art Association’s visual art exhibition OTHERING, promises to be a thoughtful emotional journey and conversation starter.

Berkshire Art Association’s Othering
Berkshire Art Association’s Othering opens Friday, November 4 with a reception from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The show will be on display through November 26 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Avenue in upstreet Pittsfield. Gallery hours are 11am to 4pm, Wednesday through Saturday, and admission is free. A panel discussion featuring some of the artists in BAA’s show will be held Wednesday, November 16th.
