On Thursday, May 26, New World Writers Night presents fiction writers Brent Robison and Jana Martin.
Readings take place at New World Home Cooking, 1411 Route 212, between Woodstock and Saugerties. This reading will begin promptly at 7, so please arrive by 6:30 for dinner. Readings include an open mic (5 minute limit) which can be poetry or prose. No admission charge; we take a voluntary collection for the writers. Attendees who wish to have dinner before the reading can call 246-0900 for reservations.
By tradition, New World Writers Night is open to both poetry and prose. For this evening we have two of our area’s best short story writers.
Jana Martin is the author of Russian Lover and Other Stories (Verse Chorus /Yeti Books), Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (Abbeville Press), and Great Inventions / Good Intentions (Chronicle Books). Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in a range of publications from The New York Times to Cosmopolitan to Glimmer Train to New World Writing. She is a frequent book reviewer for Chronogram and a contributing editor for theweeklings.com, which is devoted to the longform essay. Recently she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and a Million Writers Award, and is the recipient of a Glimmer Train award and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. This spring she was the Writer in Residence at SUNY New Paltz. She lives and breathes in Woodstock.
Brent Robison is the author of The Principle of Ultimate Indivisibility: A Web of Stories (Bliss Plot Press) and the blog Ultimate Indivisibility. His fiction has appeared in over a dozen literary journals and has won the Literal Latte Short Short Award, the Chronogram Short Fiction Contest, a Fiction Fellowship from the New Jersey Council on the Arts, and a Pushcart Prize nomination. He lives with his wife, artist Wendy Drolma, on the western fringe of Woodstock. A novel in progress threatens to take him to the grave.
