We have another great week of poetry and spoken word readings, open mics, events, and slams in the area to celebrate and appreciate the art. Here is a look at what is coming up in our poetry community this week…

 

Monday, October 19

Nitty Gritty Slam continues with NGS 104 featuring D. Colin 1.2 at The Low Beat. Admission is $5.00 / $3.00 with student ID.

7:00pm – Colonie Tuesday Night Live Poets’ Corner
William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY
ocal poets and writers of all ages are invited to present six to ten minutes of their original work at this open reading forum. The public is encouraged to stop in and listen.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
Hinge, 48 Main St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome. This week’s featured poet is the great David Surette.

Weekly open mic for musicians and writers.

7:00pm – Writers Night at New World Home Cooking

Poets and writers are invited to read at this monthly open mic series with featured readers Judith Kerman and Helen Ruggieri hosted by Leslie Gerber.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays

A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.

 

Friday, October 23

7:00pm – Poetry Reading with Bernadette Mayer and Barbara Ungar

Bernadette Mayer, poetry legend and current Guggenheim fellow, reads her poetry with Barbara Ungar, who will read from her new book, Immortal Medusa.

8:00pm – The Parlor Cafe Open Mic

Poet and spoken word performer Andrea Gibson returns to Albany with special guest Megan Falley.

 

Saturday, October 24

1:00pm – Poe Open House
Whitney Book Corner, 600 Union Street – Schenectady, NY
Usher in the fall with Edgar Allen Poe at Whitney Book Corner’s Poe Open House. The winning poems from the Poe Poetry Contest will be read and the store will be decorated for this event by our Junior Friends.

7:00pm – Kingston’s 4th Saturday Spoken Word
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Kingston, 320 Sawkill Rd – Kingston, NY
Kingston’s 4th Saturday Spoken Word series, hosted by Annie LaBarge, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills continues owith two great featured poets – Rebecca Schumejda and George Wallace.
