Tomorrow night (March 6 at 7:00 p.m.) our good friends over at WordXWord are presenting Young+Brave: Teen Spoken Word Open Mic & Poetry Slam, with special guest Franny Choi, at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts (28 Renne Ave, Pittsfield, MA). The evening, free and open to all, will be hosted by local poet and educator, Melissa Quirk Cairns.

Area teens are invited to step up and share their work in a mutually supportive context, either in the non-competitive open mic portion of the evening, or in the friendly, but competitive poetry slam. Pre-registration online at wXw365.org is strongly encouraged to guarantee a spot on the list to read.

In addition to the open mic and poetry slam, the evening will also feature the work of Franny Choi. Franny is the author of Floating, Brilliant, Gone (Write Bloody, 2014) and a recipient of the Frederick Bock Prize. She has been a finalist for the Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship and multiple national poetry slams. Her work has appeared in numerous publications. She is a VONA Fellow, a Project VOICE teaching artist, and a member of the Dark Noise Collective. Franny Choi has participated in the annual WordXWord Festival as a performer and workshop facilitator. This appearance marks the culmination of a 3-day residency working with young Berkshire spoken word voices.
