Upcoming Poetry Events – Week of March 22, 2015

Spring is finally here and what better way to celebrate the melting snow than a week full of poetry? We have a great list of events ahead of here in our poetry community. Everything starts on Sunday with three big readings in the area and the words continue all week…and it’s not even National Poetry Month yet!

Here is a look at what is coming up this week…

Monday, March 22

2:00pm – Women, Myth, and Media: A Poetry Reading for Women’s History Month

Leah Umansky and Barbara Ungar present a poetry reading, Q&A and book signings.

2:00pm – A Poetic Spring: Five Upstate Poets Read from Their Work
The Arts Center of The Capital Region, 265 River Street, Troy, NY
Come hear five distinct and distinctly different poetic voices, all in one afternoon: Celia Bland, Shira Dentz, Matthew Klane, Daniel Nester, and Gretchen Primack.

3:00pm – Sunday Four Poetry Open Mic
Old Songs Community Center, 37 South Main Street, Voorheesville, NY
Monthly open mic for poets and poetry with featured poet Bob Sharkey hosted by Dennis Sullivan, Mike Burke, and Edie Abrams at the Old Songs Community Center in beautiful Voorheesville, NY.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome.

 

Thursday, March 26

Weekly open mic for musicians and writers.

7:00pm – Writers Read
The Good Purpose Art Gallery and Starving Artist Cafe, 40 Main Street, Lee, MA
Writers Read is a monthly series of established poets and writers reading from their works. Each fourth Friday (with exception of November) will feature a poet and writer reading from their works for approximately 30 minutes each.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays

A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.

 

Friday, March 27

8:00pm – The Parlor Cafe Open Mic

A weekly open mic each and every Friday at the Parlor Cafe in North Adams for poets, musicians, and artists. Signup at the bar and get ready for the show, starting at 8:00pm.

Monthly open mic with a featured reader at the beautiful Inquiring Minds Bookstore in Saugerties created and hosted by author Laura Lonshein Ludwig.

7:00pm – The Poetry Brothel

Output Agency Ltd. and the The Poetry Brothel of Kingston, NY present an evening of readings, live music, belly dancing, and interactive dialogue in a unique setting featuring Jacqueline Ahl, Phillip X. Levine, Mauro O’Meara, Gary Siegel, Glen Werner, Adrienne Wood, and more.
