Area native Michele Battiste, a regular face at the old QE2 poetry open mics hosted by Tom Nattell, came back into town in May of 2009 for a special reading at The Poetry Motel.
Michele Battiste was born and mostly raised in Schenectady, New York. Nomadic by default, she has lived in San Francisco, Wichita, and New York City. Currently, she lives in Boulder where she studies and teaches at the University of Colorado. She loves the mountains but she misses real bagels and she wouldn’t mind a barometric pressure more closely associated with sea level. She thinks everyone should eat more vegetables and the core of the pineapple.
Michele recently completed a book of linked, narrative poems documenting life in post-WWII Budapest up to and including the ’56 Hungarian Revolution. Her current project is called “The Murder Poems.” She is the author of four chapbooks and two poetry collections: Ink for an Odd Cartography (2009) and Uprising (2013), both from Black Lawrence Press.
