There will be a night of poetry, songs and author readings under the blanket of stars for “Olana’s Coffeehouse: A Celebration of Literature” at the Wagon House Education Center at Olana State Historic Site (5720 State Route 9G, Hudson) starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Olana Partnership will partner with a local high school to celebrate National Poetry Month, Shakespeare’s birthday anniversary, Earth Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Hudson River School artist Frederic Church had a broad collection of books in his personal library. Authors included William Cullen Bryant, Emily Dickinson, Mark Twain, Amelia Edwards, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Shakespeare, William Watson, Edgar Allan Poe and many others. Readings from these authors and students’ work will be featured at the event.
Light refreshments and coffee will be served. A donation is requested to support the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is an intensive training program that fosters character and leadership skills in youth. Students learn to work collaboratively with other youth through a variety of issues, and are introduced to many active community leaders and career skills. Participants are selected by their local Rotary chapters.
Registration is requested but not required. For more information and to register, contact Olana Partnership’s Education Coordinator Sarah Hasbrook at shasbrook@olana.org or 518-828-1872, ext. 109.
