The last Yes! Poetry and Performance show of the semester will be Friday night, November 22, at the Albany Center Gallery (39 Columbia Street, Albany) featuring poets Ossian Foley and Shira Dentz and then “Building Cities Within Cities”, a film about the downtown plaza by Maureen Jolie Anderson.
Ossian Foley‘s first book, OF: Vol. I, will be published this fall by Ugly Duckling Presse. Ossian got his MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is now a doctoral student in English at Florida State University. Versions of some poems in Of: Vol. I have appeared in SET, Esque, Union Seminary Quarterly Review, 6×6, and elsewhere. With James Longley, Ossian edits LVNG Magazine, published by Flood Editions. He lives in Tallahassee, FL and Port Townsend, WA.
Shira Dentz is the author of two books, black seeds on a white dish (Shearsman, 2011), and door of thins (CavanKerry Press, 2013). She is also the author of two chapbooks, Leaf Weather (Tilt Press/Shearsman), and Sisyphusina (forthcoming from Red Glass Books). Her writing has appeared widely in journals including The American Poetry Review, The Iowa Review, and New American Writing, and featured online at The Academy of American Poets’ site ({Poets.org), NPR, Poetry Daily, and Verse Daily. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she has a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Utah, and is currently Drunken Boat‘s Reviews Editor and Lecturer in Creative Writing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Maureen Jolie Anderson is an artist who works with archives both as a source for material and content as well as a means towards understanding their use as conceptual metaphors for memory. She mainly works with text, photography and video. She has taught English and writing at Friedrich Schiller University and Bauhaus University. Her work has been exhibited in Germany, South Korea, Canada and the United States.
Albany Center Gallery is a community-based and community supported non-profit art space dedicated to exhibiting skillful contemporary art of the Mohawk Hudson region, and building a strong, knowledgeable audience for the visual arts.
