On Monday, June 24 we are back downtown for the June edition of Albany Poets’ long-running open mic series, Poets Speak Loud. This time around we will have a special guest host as our usual Mistress of Ceremonies, Mary Panza, will be out of town. Taking charge for the evening will be none other than one of last month’s featured readers, Avery. In addition to the great open mic poets that will be taking the stage, this month our featured poets are Team Nitty Gritty 2013 (Kevin Peterson, Daniella Watson, Algorhythm, Poetyc Visionz, ILLiptical, and Christopher The Poet)who will be bringing an incredible mix of poetry and spoken word to the back room of McGeary’s.
This will not be a slam or competition, but rather a performance from a dynamic group of very talented poets and writers that will be representing our poetry community that we have right here in the Capital Region.
The evening will also be a special fundraiser for the team as they are trying to raise money for their upcoming trip to Boston for the National Poetry Slam. They are looking for donations to help cover some the registration, travel, and lodging expenses involved in the annual national competition.
Poets Speak Loud is a monthly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a featured poet (usually) hosted by local poet and Albany Poets VP Mary Panza at McGeary’s (4 Clinton Square, Albany) in downtown Albany on the last Monday of each and every month for the past eight years. Sign-up for the open mic is 7:00pm, we start around 8pm.
