Two great, local poets will be featured at the Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic next Wednesday, July 3 in Saratoga Springs. Avery and Mojavi will be taking the stage the night before Independence Day to share their poetry and spoken word at the historic venue.
This open mic, hosted by Carol Graser, takes place on the first Wednesday of each and every month at Caffè Lena (47 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs). This event has a $5.00 admission charge. Sign up at 7:00, 7:30 readings start.
Mojavi has been on the Albany poetry scene for many years as a feature at Lionheart Cafe, Lark Tavern, Poet’s in the Park, and Mother Earth’s Cafe. He has read, slammed and featured AS220, the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe, The Sugar Shack Cafe in Harlem and Mangoes in Washington, DC. He is currently the president of Urban Guerrilla Theatre, a poetry/spoken word performance group in Albany, as well as an organizer, slam coach, and open mic host for Nitty Gritty Slam.
Avery Stempel is a performance poet and Board Member of Albany Poets. He has been turning everyday experience, cosmic insight and philosophic questioning into lyrical portraits and sharing them in the Albany area for over 15 years. He has been featured at the Poets Speak Loud Reading at The Lark Street Tavern, at the Pride Center in Albany, at the St. Poem Series on Lark Street, and at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in Wappingers Falls.
