We have a great, solid week of poetry and spoken word ahead of us here in upstate New York. Everything kicks off in Voorheeville on Sunday with the annual contest to crown the 2013 Smith’s Tavern Poet Laureate then we head back down to Albany for Monday’s monthly Poets Speak Loud open mic. This month we are proud to have D. Colin as the featured poet. On Tuesday, we head over to Valentine’s for the Last Chance Slam for poets to get into the Nitty Gritty Grand Slam happening on May 7.

This is the last chance for poets to get into the Grand Slam, happening on May 7. Any poet who has not yet made it in or is new to the scene are welcome to compete. If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
