A lot of poetry happening in the Hudson Valley this weekend as the COW series continues this coming Saturday at the brand new Outdated Cafe in Kingston. This is another great monthly poetry event hosted by Phillip Levine with featured performers and an open mic.
COW (Chronogram Open Word): Poetry/Prose/Performance is (usually) hosted byChronogram’s poetry editor Phillip Levine, it runs on the first Saturday of every month at 7pm at the “Outdated” (314 Wall St).
Bruce Weber is the author of five published books of poetry, These Poems are Not Pretty (Miami: Palmetto Press, 1992), How the Poem Died (New York: Linear Arts, 1998), Poetic Justice (New York: Ikon Press, 2004), The First Time I Had Sex with T. S. Eliot (New York: Venom Press, 2004), and the just released The Break-up of My First Marriage (Rogue Scholars Press). Bruce’s work has appeared in numerous magazines, as well as in several anthologies. including this summer in Chronogram and River Reporter. He has performed regularly in the tri-state area, both alone and with his performance group, Bruce Weber’s No Chance Ensemble, which has produced the CD Let’s Dine Like Jack Johnson Tonight (members.aol/com/ncensemble). He is the producer of the long running Alternative New Year’s Day Spoken Word/Performance Extravaganza, which will be moving this year to Dixon Place in the Lower East Side. By day, Bruce is Senior Curator at the National Academy Museum, and splits his time between his homes in New York City and Saugerties, New York.
Joanne Pagano Weber is a writer of fiction who is also a visual artist and performer. Among other places her work has been published in Word Thursdays Anthology, Curare, and Breukelen Magazine, and performed on Let’s Dine Like Jack Johnson Tonight, a CD by The No Chance Ensemble, of which she is a member and director. She has performed at numerous venues in New York , including The Knitting Factory and Dixon Place with the ensemble, or as a featured writer. She is currently worked toward a new exhibition of paintings, and teaching art in New Jersey and Riverdale. A painting is now on view at Brik Gallery in Catskill as part of the exhibition Cowgirls of the Hudson.
Teresa Costa has been reading, writing, performing her poetry extensively through – out the Hudson Valley, NY, since Autumn 1974. Costa was the poetry director & host at The Cross St Gallery, in Saugerties, NY from August 2002 – October 2005 when the roof caved in. Currently she hosts the second Thursday poetry readings at The Bohemian Book Bin, at Kings Mall, in Kingston, NY. Was a member of the now-defunct poetry group; Three Free Women, Voices Of the Valley, and is listed in The American Poets and Writers Directory. Costa has self-published three chapbooks: Cosmic Orgasm, What We Breathe Out, and Bon` Appetit(e). Phillip X Levine is a poet, editor and performer. He is poetry editor for Chronogram and president of the Woodstock Poetry Society & Festival. From 2001-2008, he hosted a popular weekly reading series at The Colony Cafe, one of the most storied venues for poets and musicians in Woodstock, NY. This OPEN WORD series is an evolution of The Colony series.
