Tonight Dan Wilcox and Robert Milby, two of the hardest working poets / organizers in the area, are going to be the featured readers at the Calling All Poets series at the beautiful and historic Howland Cultural Center in Beacon. Both of these guys work each and every month to make sure that poetry lives and strives in the upstate New York.
Dan is a driving force in the Albany area hosting the Third Thursday Poetry Night, one of the longest running poetry open mics in Albany, as well as the annual Poets in the Park series in Washington Park. Recently Dan has been a part of the From The Page to The Stage writing workshop (a joint venture with Albany Poets and The Barn). Dan also keeps a blog with his thoughts and observations from virtually every open mic and poetry event in the Northeast.
Robert Milby has been a fixture in the upstate poetry community for many years. He has hosted 26 poetry series in New York State since September. 1995, and has read onstage over 1,000 times in 6 states. Currently he is a host of two open mics in the Hudson Valley and works tirelessly to bring new poets and artists into the fold. When he is not hosting or promoting events, he is writing.
