Our very good friend Will Nixon will be making the trip from Woodstock to Warrensburg on Thursday, March 8 for a reading at Willows Bistro presented by The Adirondack Center for Writing.
The Adirondack Center for Writing and Willows Bistro present an open mic. The featured reader is poet and essayist Will Nixon! He will read from current work published in Love in the City of Grudges, and pieces forthcoming in the chapbook My Clone. Nixon been called “funny, wistful and poignant,” (Catskill Mountani Regional Guide) and has published three previous collections — My Late Mother as a Ruffed Grouse, When I Had It Made and The Fish Are Laughing.
Will Nixon co-authored Walking Woodstock: Journeys into the Wild Heart of America’s Most Famous Small Town with Michael Perkins, which began as walking columns for the Woodstock Times and became a local bestseller. Bill McKibben said, “The Hudson Valley has produced some of the great peregrinations of our time, most notably by John Burroughs, an inveterate walker. Add Michael Perkins and Will Nixon to the list—these are charming essays, some of them with a bit more bite than you’d guess.” The two authors are now writing The Pocket Guide to Woodstock.
As an environmental journalist in the past, Will Nixon was a special correspondent for the Adirondack Explorer and a contributing editor to the Amicus Journal, published by the Natural Resources Defense Council. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and listed in Best American Essays 2004. He now runs the Hudson Valley Poetry Blog at willnixon.com.
