What a great way to kick off 2012! The poets gathered at Valentines this past Tuesday for the 9th edition of the Nitty Gritty Slam. After taking a little abuse about his pink sweater Mojavi hosted the open mic portion of the show that saw Jessica Layton, Daniel Nester, Tasha, a returning Dom Rizzo, Elizag, and Ed Rinaldi all take the stage and get the crowd ready for a night full of the some of the best spoken word in the country.
Slam Master Dain Brammage welcomed the room with one of his pieces and Mary Panza calibrated the judges then the slam began with Shannon Shoemaker, Ben Golden, Poetic Visionz, Ka, Elizag, Kevin Peterson, Ann, and Dan Wilcox battling it out. When the dust settled, we had a new champ in Elizag, but Shannon “In The Money” Shoemaker was very close to the top spot.
