MEGAN ABBOTT, ONE OF NATION’S TOP MYSTERY WRITERS, TO READ FOR “FREQUENCY NORTH” WRITERS SERIES AT SAINT ROSE
ALBANY (October 24, 2011) — The 2011-12 “Frequency North” visiting writers reading series at The College of Saint Rose rolls on Thursday, November 10, with Edgar®-winning mystery writer Megan Abbott.
Abbott will read at 7:30 p.m. in the Standish Rooms, Saint Rose Events and Athletics Center (second floor), 420 Western Ave., Albany. The program is free and open to the public. Copies of Abbott’s latest work will be available for purchase and signing.
Abbott’s (www.meganabbott.com) latest novel, The End of Everything (Regan Arthur), was published this past July. She also authored Die a Little (Simon & Schuster, 2005),The Song is You (Simon & Schuster, 2007),Queenpin (Simon & Schuster, 2007) andBury Me Deep (Simon & Schuster, 2009). Abbott has been nominated for three Edgar® awards, the Hammett Prize, the Macavity, Anthony and Barry Awards and theLos Angeles Times Book Prize and was the winner of the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Allan Poe Award in 2008 forQueenpin. In 2008, she won the Barry Award presented by “Deadly Pleasures” and “Mystery News” and has been nominated three times for the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention’s Anthony Award. Her nonfiction book, The Street Was Mine: White Masculinity in Hardboiled Fiction and Film Noir, was published in 2003. Abbott also is editor of the Edgar®-nominated A Hell of a Woman: An Anthology of Female Noir, featuring original tales by 25 mystery and crime authors.
“Frequency North” is the brainchild of Daniel Nester, an assistant professor of English at Saint Rose. In creating the series in 2006, he purposely designed it to be “aggressively eclectic.” In addition to teaching, Nester is the author of How to Be Inappropriate (Soft Skull Press, 2009), God Save My Queen (2003) and God Save My Queen II (2004).
