The Adirondack Center for Writing invites you to share your own writing at the Old Forge Public Library in Old Forge, NY, as part of their Open Mic for Writers series. The reading will begin at 7:30PM on August 17th. We encourage writers like you to share the stage with our featured reader, Paula Alida Roy.
Paula Alida Roy is a writer at home in the Adirondacks after retirement from her position as Chairperson of the Department of English at Westfield High School in New Jersey. She continues to work as a consultant to schools and teachers. Articles about teaching, gender issues and homophobia in schools have appeared in books and journals. Her poetry has been published by such literary magazines as Blueline, Moon Journal, Waterways, Adirondac, Crone’s Nest, Iris, Earth’s Daughters, and Ruah. A chapbook entitled The Gradual Day was published in 2004. She has served as director of the library’s summer writing workshop, scholar-facilitator of several discussion and literacy programs sponsored by the New York State Council on the Humanities. She has also created and led a series of film discussions at the Old Forge Library.
The Old Forge Library will host several other readers this season, including poet Mary Jablonski on November 16th.
The Old Forge Library is one of three venues for our Open Mic for Writers series. Willows Bistro in Warrensburg and the Northwoods Inn in Lake Placid are also hosting monthly spoken word events for the Adirondack Center for Writing. All events are FREE and open to the public.
