Open Mic Hosts Form “Cauldron of Crones” Poetry Troupe

Four hosts of poetry events across the Capital Region, who have formed the Cauldron of Crones poetry troupe, kick off their 2023 regional tour with three April events for National Poetry Month.

April 2, 4-6 PM, the Cauldron of Crones will read and host “Spirit in Nature” at the Golden Leaf Bookshop, 30 Saratoga Avenue Waterford, NY (518-595-3190). This event includes a poetry reading, exhibit opening for Prest’s artwork, book sale, and open mic. Golden Leaf co-owner Shaunty McMillin said, “We’re excited to host the Cauldron of Crones and exhibit Judith Prest’s riveting art. Part of our mission is to celebrate the creative community of Waterford and the Capital Region.”

Later in April, troupe members Rosenheck and Prest will lead, “Free your Inner Poet,” a poetry workshop and subsequently, “Celebrate National Poetry Month,” a reading/open mic, both at the Colonie Senior Services Center (in Beltrone Living Center), 6 Winners Circle, Albany, NY (518-459-2857 ext. 340). The workshop, Monday, April 17, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM, is open to all and free to CSSC members. The reading, Monday, April 24, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM, is open and free to all, and will include an open mic for workshop participants.

Each troupe member hosts poetry events in the Capital Region: Carol Graser hosts monthly Poetry Nights at Saratoga Spring’s historic Caffè Lena. Nancy Klepsch co-hosts “2nd Sunday @ 2” with Dan Wilcox at Collar City Mushrooms in Troy. Prest and Rosenheck co-host the monthly Poetry Circle at Moon & River Café in Schenectady’s Stockade District.

“Our purpose as the Cauldron of Crones is to reach out,” explained Rhonda Rosenheck, who manages the troupe and is a board member of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild. “Our events are invitations for timid or inexperienced poets to become part of this extraordinary literary community. We’ll keep showing up in unexpected places to entice every creative soul to join us.”
