HVWG Non-Fiction Contest Winners 2021

We are pleased to announce this year’s Hudson Valley Writers Guild Non-Fiction Contest winners.

1st Prize: – “Fiona’s Hair Fantasy” by Mary Cuffe Perez

2nd Prize: “Chairs” by Faye Stilton

3rd Prize: “A Childhood Memory: La Marqueta” by Jose Morales

Honorable mention: “A Tale of Two Tumors” by Karen DeBonis

Honorable mention: “The Concert” by Noelle Wall

Honorable mention: “Stitches of Time” by Mary Armao McCarthy

The judges for this years contest were Pierre Desir, a local writer and artist, and Sharon Stenson, a widely published local poet.

Thom Francis

Thom Francis has been organizing, promoting, and hosting open mics and poetry / spoken word events in Albany such as Nitty Gritty Slam, School of Night, Albany Poets Presents..., and the Albany Word Fest for over 20 years. As a poet and performer, Thom has been featured at many of the upstate poetry and spoken word events from Saratoga to Woodstock as well as LarkFest, Art on Lark, 1st Friday, and the Albany Word Fest.
