So much going on in the local literary, poetry, and spoken word community. Here is a look at all of the poetry events, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region.

A weekly creative writing group for grades 7-12 at the Saugerties Public Library.

7:00 pm – Poetic Vibe
Troy Kitchen, 77 Congress Street, Troy, NY
Poetic Vibe is a weekly Poetry Open Mic with featured local and regional poets hosted by D. Colin in downtown Troy. This week’s featured poet is Abioseh.

7:30 pm – Poets Speak Loud
McGeary’s, 4 Clinton Square, Albany, NY
Albany Poets will celebrate the 15th anniversary of Poets Speak Loud and the life of Tom Nattell at McGeary’s with guest host Dan Wilcox.

 

Tuesday, January 28

12:15 pm – Friends of the APL Book Review
Albany Public Library, 161 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY
The Friends of Albany Public Library host regular book reviews, author talks, and special presentations every Tuesday at 12:15 pm at the Washington Ave. Branch. These presentations are free and open to the public. No registration is required.

7:00 pm – Club Helsinki Open Mic
Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY
A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

7:00 pm – Storytelling Open Mic
Caffe Lena, 47 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs, NY
Storytellers of all styles and levels of experience are welcome! Enjoy an evening of true stories, traditional tales, myths, fables, family stories and more. A featured storyteller performs for 30 minutes and open mic tellers have 10 minutes each.  We have just one rule: no notes!

 

Wednesday, January 29

6:30 pm – Wednesday’s Milkweed Poetry

A weekly gathering with a new featured poet each week. Bring a dish to share if you’d like. Suggested: $4 / person.

7:30 pm – School of Night
The Berlin, 2 King Street, Troy, NY
An open mic for poets, poetry, and the spoken word with featured, hosted by R.M. Engelhardt, at The Berlin in Troy. All Writers Welcome. $3.00 Donation Requested.

 

Thursday, January 30

8:00 am – Shut Up and Write: Great Barrington
Fuel, 293 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA
Come work on your book, blog, essay, etc., and get feedback and support from fellow writers. Or if you prefer not to share your work, that’s fine too. The goal here is to write write write!

7:30 pm – Utica Poets Society Spoken Word Open Mic
The Other Side, 2011 Genesee Street, Utica, NY
Weekly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a non-mandatory theme.
