Poet Karen Schoemer Reads Her Work and Hosts Open Mic

Columbia County poet Karen Schoemer will read from her own work and host an open mic at Roeliff Jansen Community Library on Saturday, October 5 at 5 pm.

Schoemer invites poets and poetry lovers “to share a poem and celebrate their own heritage and poetry’s shared heritage.” Participants can read one or two of their own poems or read poems from a favorite poet.

Karen Schoemer is a poet, performer and author from Hudson, NY. Her poems have appeared in La Presa, The Pine Hills Review, Up the River and Chronogram. She is vocalist for the bands Sky Furrows and Jaded Azurites. Her music journalism has been widely published and anthologized and she is the author of Great Pretenders: My Strange Affair with ’50s Pop Music. A recent graduate of the Writer’s Foundry, the MFA program at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, she is working on her debut poetry collection, Third Nature.
