Judith Kerman, Marilyn McCabe, and Open Mic at C.R.E.A.T.E.

In addition to the open mic readings, Schenectady’s 2nd Wednesday Poetry Series will feature Judith Kerman and Marilyn McCabe at C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios on September 11, 7:30-9pm.

Judith Kerman retired as Professor Emerita of English from Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, where she taught creative writing, literature and electronic media. She has published nine collections of poems, most recently Aleph, broken: Poems from My Diaspora” (Broadstone Books, 2016) and three collections of translations. She was a Fulbright scholar in the Dominican Republic in 2002. She is publisher of Mayapple Press in Woodstock, NY.

Marilyn McCabe‘s work has garnered her an Orlando Prize from A Room of Her Own, the Hilary Tham Capital Collection contest award from The Word Works resulting in publication of her book of poems Perpetual Motion, and two artist grants from the New York State Council on the Arts. Her second book of poems, Glass Factory, was published in 2016. Her poems and videopoetry have been published in a variety of print and online literary magazines. Located at 137 State Street, Schenectady, C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios is just around the corner from Slicks Tavern (famous for thick sandwiches) and the Moon & River Café, next to KFC, and across the street from the new Frog Alley craft brewery. There’s a bus stop out front and plentiful parking along State Street and Liberty Street, plus a free parking lot behind the building on Liberty Street.

Doors open at 7pm (no earlier, please, because private meetings may be in session). Readings begin at 7:30. Admission is free; coffee and tea are available for a donation. Jackie Craven will host.
