Brass Tacks – A New Open Mic for Poetry and Spoken Word

Brass TacksAlbany Poets is returning to The Low Beat with “Brass Tacks”, a brand new series of poetry and spoken word, that will take place on the first and third Tuesday of each and every month.

Series host and Albany Poets President Thom Francis says, “It’s great to come back and start a new chapter in the long, storied history of Albany Poets and The Low Beat. We are thrilled to be able to bring even more poetry to the area with this new series.”

Poetry events have been a part of The Low Beat (and it’s predecessor Valentines) for over twenty years. Open mics such as R.M. Englehardt‘s “School of Night” were a mainstay of the local spoken word community in the late-90’s. Albany Poets itself has hosted many events, readings, slams, and open mics over the years including the Albany Word Fest and Albany Poets Presents.

“We are planning some great featured and themed readings in the coming months that will mix well with a poetry open mic.”, says Francis. “One of the upcoming readings at Brass Tacks will feature the poets and writers who are published in the latest edition of Up The River, our annual literary journal.”

The new “Brass Tacks” takes place in the first and third Tuesday of every month at The Low Beat. Sign up begins at 7:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. start time. Admission is just $3.00.
